Unless specifically allowed by a role or special permission the following attributes are illegal:

Illegal attributes for all races:

  • Magical powers of any kind
  • Stating actual height (use relative descriptions)
  • Stating actual weight (use relative descriptions)
  • Stating actual age (use relative descriptions)
  • Names from other games, books, movies or television
  • Blatant copying of fictional characters
  • Education Skill - Unless chosen in character generation.
  • Literacy - Unless Education is chosen in character generation.
  • Wealthy Background
  • Noble Background
  • Backgrounds associated with other races which includes elves, dwarves, Dunedain, wizards, etc.
  • Unnamed Kin
  • Any background that includes mention of rape in any form
  • Backgrounds claiming being raised by animals
  • Backgrounds claiming anything to do with Fellowships.
  • Languages other than Common or Dalish unless chosen in character generation with RPP allowed races.
  • Hillmen Affiliation - Hillmen do not exist.

Illegal Human Attributes

  • Grey Eye Color
  • Unnatural Eye Colors
  • Eyecolor that conflicts with coded eyecolor in Char-Gen
  • Unnatural Hair Colors
  • Backgrounds claiming association with areas outside of Rhovanion unless otherwise okayed by RPP-required races and roles.
  • Height Limitations:
    • Rhovanions no taller than 68 inches.
    • Rohirrm no taller than 78 inches.
    • Gondorians no taller than 70 inches.
    • Beorning no taller than 74 inches.
    • Breemen no taller than 66 inches.
    • Dalemen no taller than 72 inches.
    • Dorwinion no taller than 72 inches. 
    • Dwarves no taller than 60 inches.
  • Military background greater than the lowliest of soldiers unless otherwise okayed by RPP-required roles.
  • Military Heroes
  • Use of any of the following nouns in sdesc or ldesc:
    • fellow 
    • girl
    • dandy 
    • boy
    • maiden 
    • adolescent
    • maid 
    • matron (you can be a matronly woman though)
    • codger 
    • brute 

Illegal Orc Attributes

  • Background claiming association with the following clans: Gijakpis Vras, Shunned Moon Slaves, the Wolf Brothers, Splintered Tusk, or Yellow Eye.
  • Dol Guldur Origin
  • Minas Morgul Origin
  • Languages other than Common or Orkish
  • Cross breeds
  • Goblins

 

Humans:

- To be accepted as a relative, any added PCs need to be someone mentioned by name in the other person's background. No unnamed third cousins randomly showing up. This means that if you intend to later have anyone in your character's background they must be named in said background and before the player apps in to fill this relation - they need to contact staff at hello@middle-earth.us to notify staff ahead of time. Too, they should put in their background their present familial ties already being played.

- All Human applications need to be standard, local Rhovanion people who are beholden to standard, local Rhovanion traditions, cultures, laws and social settings. There are no exceptions to this rule unless pre-approved by Elder Staff through the special application process or the required RPP is met for certain coded races.

- Groups of relatives can be a max of three. Further expansion of a group requires Elder Staff Approval.

- No apping back into your family group once your original PC dies.

AS A NOTE: 
Family PCs are held to a higher standard of segregated IC/OOC information. Abuse of this will result in nogains, rpp reductions, and trolls.


- People should not infer that their PCs possess magical powers. (Good, bad, or anything in between.) We are not currently supporting that with either roles or any sort of code. A certain sense of other-worldiness is fine, and we have at least one filled role designed with that in mind. 

- Illiterate and uneducated PCs (IE, you didn't apply for and get Education and scripts approved and added to your PC) shouldn't imply they can read and/or are bastions of ancient and secret knowledge. This means that if you lack education you should not be using omote or artistry to get around that.

While I a certain degree of boasting or even outright lying is acceptable as legitimate RP choice, inferring that your PC has code and/or craft backing that you don't is lying as much ICly as OOCly and gives an unfair impression to other players that you have staff support that you do not. 

So, let's please not.

Orcs:

Background Location

- All 0RPP Vadok orcs will hail from tribes outside of the immediate area, and should not come from any of the 5 surrounding tribes; no orcs should come from Gijakpis Vras, Shunned Moon Slaves, the Wolf Brothers, Splintered Tusk, or Yellow Eye. No 0 RPP orc should be from Dul Guldur, though Gundabad is okay.
-- 1 RPP orcs may come from the aforementioned tribes.

- Players are free to describe and utilize ideas for their own far-away tribes, most likely to be from the Misty Mountains or the far reaches of Mirkwood.
- No orcs from Mordor

Skills

- No Khuzdul, Sindarin
- No written skills unless given express permission
- Ensure skills are referred to in the background
- Picks for longblade also require a pick in either polearm or bludgeon
- Picks for dual-wield need to include sole-wield
