Character Reports

Why? What is a report going to do for me? - First and foremost these are wholly optional. These are not to gain RPP or required for such, nor have any weight on RPP growth whatsoever. Character reports facilitate communication in two ways. It allows staff to be kept apprised of a character's doings, thoughts, goals, etc. that they may not otherwise be aware of due to not being able to watch every character at all hours. It allows players to witness the evolution of their character and keep a thorough history of their doings, should they desire this.

How? How do I submit a report? - Send an email to support (at) middle-earth.us with your account name and 'CHARACTER REPORT' in the Subject line.

It is suggested that your report contain the following information:

  • Clan
  • Current Plots: This is for a brief synopsis of the plots your PC is currently involved in.  (What your character is doing)
  • IC Goals: This is for a brief list of goals that your character has right now, or is involved in.
  • OOC Goals: This is for the goals in which you have for your character.

Let us see this in action.

Clan: Artisan Union
Current Plots:
Selling information on his boss to a couple of his boss' adversaries against his better judgment and is ashamed about it.
Working tirelessly, and failing miserably at it, to get Ros to notice him at the Inn.
Sliding extra materials off the barge when the Masters aren't looking and blaming it on dock thieves when stopped at Laketown.
Concealing the fact he has a barren wife in Laketown while visiting Ros in Utterby, thinks he's slick about it.
IC Goals:
Win Ros.
Make more money.
Open up a smithy.
Never again see the she-beast he's married to.
OOC Goals:
Make a memorable character.
See Bernard find happiness with a woman and a shop.
Not die in the second day of playing.
Explore Laketown and learn how best to play in it.

What should be in my report?
Clear, concise information. This is for staff to better know your doings as a character and a player with said character and for you to keep historical documentation on your character's growth if you so choose.

How often should I submit a report?
That's up to you, we recommend no more than once a week.

How long should my reports be?
Once again, that's up to you.  Write a novel if you like, but please be aware that providing us with a pithy outline may help a lot if you get long winded.  (A TLDR tag is extremely helpful to our over-worked RPAs).

How will staff respond to my reports?
We will normally respond back to you with a thank you and let you know we're placing your report in to our permanent archive for future reference.

How will this help staff?
Roleplay Administrators (RPAs) strive to keep up to date on all characters in game and will use this information to help create plots and stir up roleplay in-game.

I'm trying to do something illegal, should I keep it a secret and not tell staff?
You can sure try, but we recommend being open with our RPA staff so they can help you.  Our staff members love a good intrigue and will help you in many ways to perpetuate your story.  Please note that our RPA's may not contact you directly about these things, instead they may work behind the scenes to help you.

This isn't turning out the way I expected!  Why are you doing this to me?!
Roleplay is about dealing with unexpected outcomes and rolling with the punches.  Quite often what seems to be a fatal blow to your home-brewed plot may be a significant opportunity for your character, please take the time to consider all available options and use the think command liberally. Staff members will never purposely kill a plot or your goals unless they are fully out of context.  (We'll let you know if something you're asking for just does not fit with the game).
