Teach
Teaching in Shadows of Isildur is handled via appropriate roleplay between player characters (PCs). Logs of these roleplay sessions are submitted to staff at: Staff@middle-earth.us for review. Please give a reasonable amount of lessons before attempting to code-teach the player. Some skills, like fighting, can be learned without lessons and the TEACH command. These, you can reasonably do every other lesson. But please be realistic, as well as complete in instruction. Complex skills will obviously be looked at a bit harder.
Teaching in Shadows of Isildur is like all code intended to support a roleplay rich environment. Teaching is therefore, expected to be focused on roleplay between a teacher and student(s) in which all parties are actively engaged and participating. Ask questions, make mistakes, clarify assumptions. It's a way for knowledgeable crafters and scholars to help bring their art away from code and live into the world. It's a way for people who might not participate in the "bigger badder" things in life to show off their roleplay ability both to other players and to staff (for consideration of RPP among other things.)
COMBAT SKILLS : These can be done with a relatively small amount of teaching. Even, in most cases, self-taught. For the purposes of TEACH though, 4 solid lessons should be used.

STEALTH SKILLS : Hide and Sneak can be self-taught.. Remember to RP appropriately. For both Pick and Steal, these are RPP skills. For all four, 6 lessons should be used, at a minimum in the case of the latter.
CRAFT SKILLS : These are basically life trades. They are -not- simple to learn or master. Some require multiple skills to be of use, in the case of things like Armorcraft, or Distilling, or even Farming. 12 lessons are the recommendation, to start a person off properly.

GENERAL LIFE SKILLS: Aside from Handle, Medicine, and Haggle, these skills can be self-taught. In the case of actually teaching, realize what actually goes into these. 5 good lessons should be used in the latter case. For the ones like Handle, Medicine and Haggle, 10 lessons or more should be used.
Languages: 12 lessons. It's hard to learn a foreign tongue!
Scripts: 12 lessons. Learning to read and write? It's all hieroglyphics and Elven Runes to me!
In short, be reasonable. It's a game. Have fun!
